Pasture raised chicken eggs from Sky Valley Family Farm. What does truly pasture-raised mean and look like? A large number of farms that claim to pasture raise their hens simply let them out of permanent buildings into the same area day after day. The grass is very quickly eaten and the bugs and worms the chickens love so much are eliminated. We believe that simply ranging chickens out of permanent buildings is not truly ‘pasture-raised’. During the spring, summer and fall our hens live in portable hoophouses that are moved weekly through our lush fields. The hens alwayshave fresh grass and bugs to eat. Our lightweight fencing surrounds the house and protects the chicken from coyotes and other predators. In addition, our farm dogs do their duty and see protecting the animals as their mission in life. The process is extremely labor intensive, but we believe it produces the best possible eggs and allows the chickens to live the way they were intended to live.
